Negative People = Negative Life

Have you ever heard your vibe attracts your tribe? I have, but I never realized how true that was until this year. This past semester at college was definitely one of my hardest so far. I was taking a lot of hours, had a part time job, and was a leader in many committees. Being with so many different people in some stressful situations you see how people react under pressure. You also see how influential those are around you. If none of your friends are studying, then you most likely aren’t going to study or want to study either. If your friends aren’t working out, you are less likely to work out. Maybe your friends are going out to parties, there is a pretty good chance you are going to want to as well.

If you have an idea of what you want your life to be like and who you want to be like, surround yourself with those people. If you want to be fit, surround yourself with people you go to the gym often. Do you want to be more studious, surround yourself with people who study often. This is a big one for me because I am a STEM major and a good amount of my friends aren’t. That is nothing against them, but it does seem like they have it a little bit easier. I wake up early, I try to squeeze in exercise and a healthy meal before going to work or class. Eventually, around 4 I’m done with classes which leads me to studying and my extracurriculars. I spend easily 5 hours a day studying and sometimes that gets me no where just because of the way the class was structured. I was in organic chemistry last semester and if you came out with a C, yup you heard me right, a C, then you were doing good. The test average for that class was in the middle to high 60’s and that’s not because of lack of effort.

It was because of this class that I was close to hating college as a whole. The people I was around only made it worse because they influenced me not to study as much because “what’s the point” and they were always so negative and hateful towards that class that it made me not only hate the class but that semester of college as a whole.

I’m back at school for a new semester and have surrounded myself with new people. Compared to some of the people I surrounded myself with last year, these people are genuine balls of sunshine. They may be having a bad day but they aren’t going to show it. There is a resident in my building that whenever I’m at the desk we will ask each other how’s your day going and he just answers it’s a great or it’s a wonderful day. I strive to be more like that.

One of my newly discovered New Years Resolutions and just life goals is to surround myself with people that influence me to be a better person and be more like the person I want to be. Your tribe should motivate you and inspire you. Your tribe doesn’t have to be in person. A great way is through online communities such as this. The key to it is to be engaged with the community because you aren’t going to feel close or involved if you are just a fly on the wall.

I hope that you all find your tribe and it makes you and your life everything you want it to be.

Sorry for posting late, my family and I got a puppy this weekend and he stole my heart so I was busy seeing him before I had to go back to college again.

Have a great week!

Loved it! And crazy enough it made me think back to when i started college it was so easy to get wrapped up into the things your friends would/wouldn’t do… like studying lol. My first year was a reflection of doing things b/c my friends where not because it was what I wanted.
I 100% agree hang with the crowd that you want to be like and you’ll become the same!
