Charleston Day 2

Today was probably my favorite day of this trip purely because we did and saw so much. We started out the day by visiting the South Carolina Aquarium. I was surprised by how nice their facility was and how much they had for people to see. There were hundreds of different animals and one of their “exhibits” is just the ocean that is next to them. There, they have a couple of dolphin regulars that frequent the area around the aquarium and so you can see them in their natural habitat.

Pretty much as soon as you walk in, there is a small petty area where you can pet their sting rays. It’s a really neat experience and they have a few overly friendly stingrays that LOVE attention and will get right up on the edge of the petting tank so that you will pet them.

Continuing further into the aquarium, there a so many different areas to explore. Some of the various animals they had are pictured below:

This aquarium has a very large turtle rehabilitation center and have as nice and as high of quality of that of Sea World according to a lady that works there. They are happy to show it to you and who their patients are at that time.

I have loved aquariums since I was a little girl and I’m pretty sure it first came from me dreaming of being a mermaid and then eventually wanting to be a marine biologist when I grew up. As a girl from Kentucky, I would love to figure out what in the world made me so interested in sea life.

Being that the Fort Sumter National Monument was right next to the aquarium we decided to pop our heads in real quick to see what is was about. I also have this little national parks and monuments book and so I want to try and fill it up eventually. The building mainly held information about slavery and the civil war and such. The building was relatively small, but contained good information and a very old American flag from back then. Plus admission is free so there was no reason not to stop by.

It was around noon or so by now and we were all starving so we quickly stopped by Liberty Square on our way to the parking garage so that we could go find lunch.

As you can tell, it was a rather rainy day to start out, but the rest of the day it was cloudy and to my surprise, attempted to be sunny for a bit.

We found this cute little cafe called the Brown Dog Deli and I highly, highly suggest that you check out if you ever find yourself in Charleston because it is cute, trendy, relatively inexpensive, and the food was amazing. I kid you by when I say I had the best wrap of my life there. If you are curious, I got the Santa Fe Chicken wrap.

I am sorry about the picture quality, it was just super busy and hard to get a good picture.

The rest of the day we continued to do all of the touristy things that we could walk to, hitting up the City Market, seeing the pineapple fountain in the park, walking the battery, a few other things that we found on our walk.

This is a rather abstract painting of the Angel Oak Tree in Charleston that I picked up from the City Market.

I almost bought enough stuff to do a mini haul if I’m being honest. They have very cool, cute, and relatively I expensive stuff. I feel like I said that a lot so far. Oh well, it’s not like it’s a bad thing.

Thank you for reading and there will be more days coming soon! Have a great day or night.
