Dear Ms. S,
Today is the last time you will ever be called by that name. From this day forth, you will have to get used to being called Mrs. B. Let that sink in for a moment. For the last 22 almost 23 years of your life, you were always called last for everything. Guess what? You now get to know how the other half lives!
Sorry, you know I had to sneak a little bit of humor in there. Now, I know you aren’t one to get super nervous over things, and today really isn’t any day to start. But, if you are nervous, just know it’s because you know today is the first official day of starting your lives together.
No more kissing each other goodbye and listening to sappy country songs on the radio as you drive back to your place thinking about the day you won’t ever have to do that again. Well you might, but this time it will be different. You both know that if ever one of you leaves, you will always come back home, our home.
“I believe that all of our lives we’re looking for home and if we’re really lucky, we find it in someone’s loving arms. I think that’ what life is-coming home.”
— Anita Krizzan
I hope today you keep this quote in mind. Today, you are so incredibly blessed to be walking into the arms of your soon to be husband. He is all you could have asked for and somehow God decided that your first will forever be your last. You are lucky enough to have had your first date, first kiss, and first “I Love You” all with the same man. What are the chances of that?
Today will be yet another first but it certainly won’t be our last. Today will be the first day I can call you my husband and you can call me your wife. In just mere hours from now, you will share vows in front of the biggest gathering of friends and family you will likely ever get to experience again.
You will walk down the isle to a whole new world of firsts. Don’t be afraid of tripping, you know your Dad will always have your back. Today is going to feel like a last day instead of a first day to him though. Make sure you show him a little extra love today. Today, you are no longer just his little girl and we all know he wishes this day was still five years away. Make sure you thank him for all of the years and craziness you put him through.
Also, please don’t worry about all of those little details you spent hours planning. At the end of the day, all that really matters is that you are becoming husband and wife. No one is going to remember what food they ate…
Don’t worry if the forecast says it’s going to rain, it’s good luck anyways…
Don’t worry about the music the DJ played…
Or the flowers you wanted from Pinterest…
When you look back, I promise those little details won’t have mattered. I can almost bet you’ll look back at pictures and stories and giggle at some of the things that went wrong you were oblivious to.
Today is going to be one of the most special days of your life. But, it won’t always be the most special day of your life. Today is just the begging of the many most special days of your lives to come. Today, you get to say “I Do” to a lifetime of these special days.
I hope today is everything you planned and hoped and dreamed for! If you need something to call you down, I suggest listening to the song “A Life That’s Good.”
Sincerely,
Ms. S for the last time
Congrats! This was a beautiful read.
